It’s a belief that most dog owners want to think their dog would recognize them anywhere, and sometimes that’s not the case. One young woman decided to find out by playing a social experiment with several dogs in public places like parks, shopping areas, and busy streets. Her purpose was to find out if the dogs could smell out their owner in new territory. The outcome proved to be far more unexpected, fun, and sometimes heartbreaking than expected.
Started With High Expectations

The dog owner was confident that all the dogs would be able to recognize her. These pets had regular contact with her and were very enthusiastic at home, after all.
Public Parks Became the First Testing Ground

The experiment started in local parks where many distractions surrounded the dogs. The environment was quite different from home, with joggers, children, bicycles, and other animals in the vicinity.
Some Dogs Recognized Her Immediately

A few dogs, in a matter of seconds, picked out their owner. Their tails began to wag, and they came running over excitedly, not hiding any doubts as to who she was.
Others Walked Right Past Her

To everyone’s surprise, a few dogs did not even pay attention to their owners. They were right there, but seemed to be more interested in what was around them than in seeing a familiar face.
Busy Shopping Areas Created More Confusion

The owner extended the test to malls and the busiest pedestrian areas. Some dogs didn’t do as well as others because there were too many sights, sounds, and scents to attend to.
Second Chances Didn’t Always Help

Certain dogs were given a second opportunity to identify their owner. Some of the funniest moments of the whole experiment were when a few would still fail to react.
Didn’t Guarantee Success

One particular player, after several attempts, refused to acknowledge its owner and continued to ‘discover’ instead.
The Owner Couldn’t Stop Laughing

She said she was a bit disappointed when some dogs were not found to be suitable for the test, but the other dogs would react in ways that were so hilarious that she would laugh out loud.
Every Dog Responded Differently

In the end, the most surprising aspect of the results was their diversity. Some dogs died immediately, and others were completely unconscious a few meters away.
